I love roses because very petal tells a different story. I also adore roses because they are just as dangerous as they are beautiful. The rose is a mystery, which is why we love them. People are curious and roses have provided mystery for centuries. “It is amazing how complete is the delusion that beauty is goodness.” I think this quote fits a rose perfectly. Roses have thorns and, if you aren’t careful, you can get hurt. They are nice to look at, but difficult to touch because of their thorns.
The rose has also been believed to have mysterious powers. This is seen throughout history when Napoleon gave his offers bags of rose petals to boil in white wine, believing them to cure poisoning. Today roses have become a symbol of love and beauty. “It was created by Cloris, the Greek goddess of flowers, but of a lifeless body of a nymph which she found one day in a clearing in the woods. She asked help of Aphrodite, the goddess of love, who gave her beauty; Dionysus, the god of wine, and added nectar to give her a sweet scent; and the three Graces gave her charm, brightness, and joy. Then Zephyr, the West Wind, blew away the clouds so that Apollo, the sun god, could sine and make the flower bloom. And so the Rose was born and was immediately crowned Queen of the Flowers.” – The Language of Flowers (New York: Harmony Books, 1989) Then Zephyr, the West Wind, blew away the clouds so that Apollo, the sun god, could sine and make the flower bloom. And so the Rose was born and was immediately crowned Queen of the Flowers.” – The Language of Flowers.
Myths like this one tell how the rose came to be. Many people have different opinions and stories about these gorgeous flowers. This is another reason why I love the rose. There are stories, legends, and myths that have passed down from centuries to try and explain how these flowers came to Earth. Roses are also a reminder that everyone has faults and that we should always see the positive in people.
